Madison at 10/25/2010 03:47:00 AMOkay I haven't updated this in a while. Not sure who even reads it anyway. But just feel like writing so here goes. I've been in Madison for two months officially! Woohoo, from the days when I've to move around carrying a map around the whole time, to now being pretty familiar with the buildings on campus. First week was bad, Hae Ju and I took SO long to get from one place to another. Probably the worst was going to that AT&T store, we went to the opposite direction and it took us like 45 minutes to finally arrive there. And THEN we had to wait like 15 minutes for somebody to deal with us. Super tiring. First 2 weeks, we just felt so tired all the time, and I collapse on the bed every night. Didn't even have energy to spend much time on the laptop. Oh and if you ask me what I did those first 2 weeks, I don't even remember much now. Basically a lot of walking around, fun stuff was the Night at the Overture and Memorial Union Bash or something. =) Memorial union bash where there's free ice-cream, wall-climbing and canoeing So yeah, then classes started. Had to figure out how to reach class the fastest way possible. Had some major changes like 2 weeks into the semester cuz Hae Ju and I decided to move out of the university dorms and into Regent. That was a pretty unsettled time. Also, decided to drop a subject last minute (as in, REALLY last minute) and took up 2 new subjects -African Storyteller, which I LOVE, and a useless 2 credit course. After all that mess, life began to fall into a sort of routine, I guess. Class, Regent, lunch, dinner, gym, lots of walking, homework, facebook, sleep... I don't really like routines though and will usually try to go for some fun thing at least once a week, which is why I totally love Fridays cuz it's the day I don't feel guilty completely wasting. Friday nights are awesome, and so far, I've never studied on it. Hope I don't have to this whole semester (except perhaps Finals week). Anyhow, this semester is a relaxing one for me, so I'm gonna make full use of the free time. =) So yeah, I've been cooking a bit. Not as much as all the other Malaysians here who cook like everyday, but I AM trying. So far, spaghetti, abc soup with rice, and ramen are the most successful ones. Plan to try other dishes, but..well, i is lazy. As for exploring Madison town, I'm basically stuck on campus most of the time since I don't have a car. Places I've been outside are the apple farm, west towne mall and east towne mall. Which is a little bit sad, but there's still a lot of time to explore! Places I wanna go are like, tour inside the Capitol, Arboretum, the museums around town, and just all the restaurants, cinemas, and malls in Madison. Can you believe that I haven't been to a cinema since I came here? Feels so deprived of cinemas. I'm a huge cinema fan. MUST MUST go watch HP7 when it comes out. I even noted down the date in my calendar, it's that big a deal to me =P People-wise, I generally hang out with Malaysians and talk to the people in ESL class. Little bit hard to find new, regular hang-out mates. I know i know, it takes time, but I get impatient. I just don't see why people don't make friends in class! Makes it difficult for people like me who don't exactly goes to parties. I guess I can join clubs and all, but I still feel too lazy to do so. Having to walk to meetings alone can be a bummer, especially if the meeting's at night which is usually the case. So, what I've been doing is just go for like one or two events each week, like the most recent Taste of Nations (food from several countries like China, Malaysia, UK, Cameroon, Indonesia, Burma). Haven't been taking a lot of photos though. Lol. Too busy eating and looking at people. It's interesting to just observe how people act and behave, somehow. I don't get bored when I'm outside alone cuz there'll always be somebody to look at. Haha... So well, am I enjoying my time here? Learning to. Am I making full use of my time here? No. Gotta work on that. I didn't come all the way here to be studying 24/7 and not know how Madison and the US is really like. Culture here still feels weird to me, and I'm still just getting used to everything. And I do have that surreal feeling with me still. Somehow, things don't seem real, like I'm in a dream. Wonder how long it'll take for that feeling to be gone and for Madison to truly be my life. This limbo of body being here and mind being in Malaysia is confusing. Hope all of us in the US adapts soon and have a blast! =D Saturday, October 23, 2010
Untitled at 10/23/2010 05:12:00 PMIt's 4am and I'm not asleep. I hope i won't regret this. shit so confusing. and i don't know who i can talk to. just those times when you don't feel like any of the people around you are there to listen. not to judge. i hate this confusion. Probably the reason why i used to stay away. But it's time to move on. |
