Flying at 12/29/2009 08:27:00 PMFlying
It's interesting to observe the multi-faceted actions of people on a small, crowded budget airline. First, the line to enter the plane. Even though AirAsia now has numbered seats, there are people who will line up so damn early, standing there with a stoned face with their bags and everything. Okay, if there are no seats in the airport, such as Penang International Airport which has wayyyy too limited waiting space for Gate 9A, then yes, it's okay to stand in line since you gotta stand anyways. But really, if you can sit for half an hour more, why not? It just shows how kiasu people can be sometimes. Especially Malaysians. A reflection of how 'smart and civilised' we all are. That's fine. The absolute worst thing is when people decide that they're above lining up. Oh yeahh we're too great to stand in line! We'll just cut in right here....and stare at you like YOU are wrong if you don't give in. This is so common in Malaysia, yet nobody ever speaks up. Nobody ever says "What are you doing? I'm lining up here, please go to the back." or something. This is especially so if the offenders are elderly folks. Because we were brought up to respect elders, I guess we never dare to reprimand them even though they're clearly in the wrong. But do they really deserve to be cleared of all rules and social niceties, just because of their age? Okay now we board the plane. I get in fine, and managed to sit down comfortably before most of the other passengers. Time to observe people again. The elderly couple who attempted to cut my line just now grabbed my attention again. They said something which sounded rather rude, when they couldn't get to their seats due to the congested human traffic in the narrow aisle. Oh well. I can't judge, but for me, etiquette is still an important element in human society. Finally, everyone got seated and the plane took off, a tad later than the scheduled time, as always. Malaysian time ma... Once the plane touched down, people were tense and just kept on waiting for the plane to 'stop completely', as the flight attendant always announces. But as usual, one guy stood up to take his luggage before the plane actually stopped. And he was the catalyst for one vigorous reaction. Instantly, others followed his lead and scrambled to reclaim their baggage. But once they get out of their seats, everyone is stuck in a limbo in the narrow passageway. Squeezed in between people and huge luggage bags, is not a sweet thing. Plus everybody can't move, since they refuse to sit down back into their seats. Oh yeah, we are an orderly bunch of people. As I watch from my seat, I see myself in my first ever flight, not knowing what to do and hence following the anxious crowd in doing some rather brainless things. Ultimately, it's okay to stay in your seats until the crowd disperses. It's okay to be the last off the plane. A few minutes ain't that big a deal, okay? The thing is, in today's rat race, people are just so harried all the time, like they need to rush somewhere, be the first to reach the terminal, be the first to put their luggage in the cabin (so that they have plenty of space available), to always win others. Slow ones are viewed as incompetent. But actually, they are the smarter ones, taking time to relax while others become slaves to time and competitiveness. Really. What's the rush? Next time you take the plane, just slow down. Your luggage won't disappear, and the plane won't take off before you board or before you leave it. Slow down. Monday, December 21, 2009

You're not just a manny at 12/14/2009 10:32:00 PM"You're not just a manny." Mannies are so hot. I just totally spent the whole day reading The Manny by Holly Peterson.
Gotta say, I'm loving Peter Bailey. If I ever have a husband who earns millions a year and live in Park Avenue, NYC like Jamie the working mum, I want a manny with a graduate degree. Oh but if it's anything like in the story, it'll be complicated.Okay, I don't want that. I just want Peter and live downtown in a mid-size apartment, none of that high society nonsense. Never understood rich people. Seriously, color coding their children's schedules, purple for play date, yellow for dentist appointment, whatever whatever. Planning out everything for their kids. Having them chaffeured to piano-karate-tuition-playdate-birthday parties and blablabla. Not the life I want. But mannies are still irresistible. Girls, get this book. You're so gonna love it. =D Sunday, December 13, 2009
Alamanda Putrajaya at 12/13/2009 12:17:00 AMAlamanda Putrajaya So that day I followed a bunch of relatives to Alamanda Putrajaya, the only mall in this city. We managed to get there no problem with the help of GPS.
Turned out once we didn't have the trusted GPS with us, we can't find our way!! My aunt and I were walking toward some lighted signs when the rest of them went into a stairwell that is clearly the emergency staircase. But, as usual social conformity worked its way and all of us walked on. I had a feeling something was wrong, and I was right. When we reached the first landing, we tried to open the door. It was locked! And so was the next door. And the door we came in? LOCKED TOO! Great. Trapped in a stairwell in a strange mall. That's when we started to panic. We had to walk right down to the ground floor and thank god the last door was open. Even though it led out to a very scary-looking and deserted alley, we managed to get out. Gosh, I was so freaking out in there. Lesson learnt: NEVER EVER enter emergency staircases without checking if the doors can be opened from the inside!! Oh that and the signboards in Alamanda sucks. That's not the end of the story though. After dinner, we couldn't find our parking lot pula. Had to walk and walk, in the end there were security guards at certain points to direct us to the lot. Seriously, we were like some sam pat people from kampung, have to have guards practically escort us to the car. and i'm not exaggerating =.= Okay, once we get into the car, it took like almost 10 minutes to get out of the car park. AND THEN, they didn't set the GPS properly, so we took a super long route in a dark hilly road. It was like 9 plus pm, all of us were tired and we had to get up at 4am the next day. Awesome. Some of them thought we were lost cuz there were NO buildings around. Finally we saw some restaurants and I could recognize it as the way to..guess what..BTN CAMP. Anyway it's near LCCT so I knew it's the correct route. So, abt 10pm we reached the hotel near LCCT and crashed on the small bed. Oh well, it's an adventure I guess. Getting lost is fun sometimes =P Saturday, December 5, 2009
Reflection at 12/05/2009 12:43:00 AMReflection The end of the year, is a time of reflections. There'll be lots of reunions, people thinking/evaluating their lives, vowing to make changes....Behind all the celebrations, I believe this is essentially the time when people look inside, at themselves. Maybe it's due to this end-of-the-year plus having-to-write-about-myself-so-much-for-college-essays, I'm not quite my usual self this past month. Perhaps what I need is to get away and experience something new. Stop over-thinking things. Stop whatever nonsense invading my brain. Can't wait for Monday. |
